PostSubject: Changing Windows' Icons   Changing Windows' Icons Icon_minitimeWed Aug 01, 2007 3:27 pm

You can change the Icons Windows uses for folders, the Start Menu, opened and closed folder in the Explorer, and many more.

1. Open RegEdit
2. Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer\ Shell Icons
3. Add a string value for each Icon you wish to change.
Example: "3" ="C:\Windows\Icons\MyIcon.ico,0" This will change the closed folders in the Explorer to "MyIcon.ico". Here is a complete list for each value.

= Unknown file type
= MSN file types
= Applications Generic
= Closed Folder
= Open Folder
= 5.25" Drive
= 3.25" Drive
= Removable Drive
= Hard Drive
= NetWork Drive
= Network Drive Offline
= CD-ROM Drive
= RAM Drive
= Entire Network 14= Network Hub
= My Computer
= Printer
= Network Neighborhood
= Network Workgroup
= Start Menu's Program Folders
= Start Menu's Documents
= Start Menu's Setting
= Start Menu's Find
= Start Menu's Help
= Start Menu's Run
= Start Menu's Suspend
= Start Menu's PC Undock
= Start Menu's Shutdown 28= Shared
= Shortcut Arrow
= (Unknown Overlay)
= Recycle Bin Empty
= Recycle Bin Full
= Dial-up Network
= DeskTop
= Control Panel
= Start Menu's Programs
= Printer Folder
= Fonts Folder
= Taskbar Icon
= Audio CD

You need to reboot after making changes. You may need to delete the hidden file ShellIconCache if after rebooting the desired Icons are not displayed.
